Frequently Asked Questions
About the Plan
What is the Lice Protection Plan? The LPP Plan is a prepaid annual plan that pays for professional head lice treatment, up to specified limits, when head lice is confirmed during your Plan term. You pay one annual enrollment fee, and if head lice happens, LPP pays the treatment costs (up to $250 per visit, up to 3 visits per Plan year).
Is this insurance? No. The Plan is not insurance and LPP is not a licensed insurer. The Plan is a prepaid service plan: you pay an annual fee, and in return LPP pays professional lice treatment providers for eligible services if head lice is confirmed.
Is LPP a medical provider? No. LPP does not screen, diagnose, or treat head lice. All medical services are provided by independent professional lice treatment clinics that you choose. LPP's role is to pay the clinic for eligible services.
Enrollment
How do I enroll? You can enroll on our website at www.liceprotectionplan.com. Or, if your school or organization is participating, you can enroll through them.
Who can be enrolled? Anyone residing in the United States. Children under 18 must be enrolled by a parent or legal guardian.
How much does it cost? The current enrollment fee is shown at checkout. Pricing may differ for individual family enrollments versus school-coordinated enrollments.
When does my Plan term begin? Fourteen (14) days after we receive your payment in full. This 14-day waiting period applies to new enrollments. If you re-enroll within 30 days after your prior term ends, the waiting period does not apply to your new term.
Why is there a waiting period? The waiting period prevents the Plan from being used after head lice has already been identified. Without it, families could sign up only when they already have an active case, which would not be sustainable for the Plan.
Term and Re-Enrollment
How long does my Plan last? 12 months from your Effective Date (which is 14 days after payment).
Does my Plan renew automatically? No. Your Plan does not renew automatically. Your Plan term ends at teh end of the 12-month term. We do not charge your card without a new enrollment.
Will you remind me before my Plan expires? As a courtesy, we may send you a reminder email before your Plan ends so you can decide whether to re-enroll. The reminder is informational only. No charge is made.
How do I re-enroll? The same way you enrolled the first time: through our website or, if applicable, through your school or organization. The terms and pricing in effect at the time you re-enroll will apply.
If I re-enroll, is there another 14-day waiting period? Not if you re-enroll within 30 days after your prior term ended. If more than 30 days pass between your prior term ending and your re-enrollment, the 14-day waiting period applies again.
How a Treatment Payment Request Works
What do I do if I think my child has head lice? Choose a professional lice treatment clinic. You can pick one yourself, or contact LPP for help locating clinics near you. Have the suspected case screened. The clinic will tell you whether head lice is confirmed. If head lice is confirmed, LPP pays the clinic for eligible treatment services up to the Plan limits.
Who pays the clinic, LPP or me? Depending on the situation, either: LPP can pay the clinic directly, or you can pay the clinic and submit the receipt to LPP for reimbursement. We work this out with you and the clinic at the time of treatment.
What if the screening shows my child doesn't have lice? If the clinic charges for the screening and head lice is not confirmed, you are responsible for that screening fee. The Plan does not pay screening fees when head lice is not confirmed.
How much does the Plan pay? Up to $250 per visit, up to 3 visits per Plan year, with a maximum total of $750 per enrolled individual per Plan year. Anything above $250 per visit is your responsibility.
What if treatment costs more than $250? You pay the difference. Most professional lice treatments fall within the $250-per-visit limit, but it varies by clinic and by location. We recommend asking the clinic about cost before scheduling.
Are products like combs or take-home kits covered? No. The Plan pays for professional treatment services. Products sold or recommended by the clinic are your responsibility.
How long do I have to submit a claim? Within 90 days of the date of service.
Choosing a Provider
Does LPP have a list of approved providers? LPP does not maintain a network of contracted providers. You can choose any independent professional lice treatment clinic in the United States. If you'd like help locating clinics in your area, contact us and we'll try to help.
Does LPP endorse specific clinics? No. LPP does not endorse, recommend, or warrant any particular clinic. The choice of provider is entirely yours.
Cancellation and Refunds
Can I get a refund if I just signed up and changed my mind? If you enrolled as an individual family, you can cancel within 30 days of your initial enrollment for a full refund, as long as no benefits have been used and no claim has been submitted. School and organization enrollments follow the terms negotiated with the school or organization.
Can I change who is enrolled? You can add enrollees during the Plan year (subject to the 14-day waiting period for each new enrollee). You generally can't remove or substitute enrollees mid-year.
HSA and FSA
Can I use my HSA or FSA to pay for the Plan? Some payment processors may accept HSA or FSA cards at checkout. Card acceptance does not mean the enrollment is eligible. LPP sells a prepaid service plan, not direct treatment at the time of purchase. Check with your plan administrator. LPP does not provide tax advice.
Schools and Organizations
My school offers LPP. How does that work? Some schools and organizations coordinate Plan enrollment for their families. Your enrollment is the same as an individual enrollment, with the same coverage and same terms. The school or organization handles communication and coordination.
Why does my school benefit from this? Schools and organizations that coordinate enrollment may receive an administrative fee from LPP in recognition of the time spent on that coordination work. This is described in our Terms and on materials we provide to schools.
Does my school endorse the Plan? That depends on the school. Schools coordinate enrollment; whether they endorse the Plan is their own decision, not something we represent on their behalf.
